The Research Unit «Snow and Atmosphere» investigates snow and its interactions with the hydro- und atmosphere across different scales, with the aim to improve our understanding of the role of snow in the climate system. We are looking for a
This PhD project will be focused on quantifying the drivers and physical properties of snow and sea ice in the Ross sea, Antarctica, using a combination of field work, process-driven models and reanalysis data. The aim of this PhD is to bridge the scales between local-scale measurements and large-scale atmospheric drivers. The PhD is embedded in a larger international project, which investigates the role of Antarctic sea ice dynamics on climate and marine ecosystems.
You have a master’s degree in environmental science with a strong background in atmosphere dynamics. You are interested in the cryosphere and are enthusiastic about combining snow- and sea ice physics with large-scale atmosphere dynamics and you would like to move to Davos.
