The research unit «Snow Avalanches and Prevention» investigates the formation and dynamics of avalanches. The aim is to gain a deeper understanding of the release, flow behavior and impact of avalanches to improve avalanche forecasting, protection and risk management. You will head the research unit “Snow Avalanches and Prevention” with around 50 employees, which also includes the avalanche warning service. Your role involves science coordination and support within the research unit and the acquisition of external funding to pursue your own research. You are committed to translating scientific results into practice, and especially to improve avalanche forecasting. You are also responsible for cooperation with government authorities and organizations at the national and international levels. You engage and contribute to the thematic development of SLF.
You have an excellent scientific track record in the field of avalanche research and its application for avalanche prevention.You have several years of experience leading research groups and coordinating interdisciplinary research projects. You have an integrative personality and strong negotiation skills.Because of your strong involvement with local and national authorities, you are fluent in at least one of Switzerland's national languages, and written and spoken English.
