The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL is part of the ETH Domain. The WSL addresses the sustainable use and protection of the environment, plus the responsible management of natural hazards. It employs around 600 people at various sites throughout Switzerland.

Insubric Ecosystems, a research group based in Cadenazzo, Ticino, investigates the historical and current causes, and future developments of ecological processes such as biological invasions and forest fires, on the southern side of the Swiss Alps. The aim of this research is to gain a deeper understanding of the interactions between climate, environment, organisms, management and natural disturbances in ecosystem processes. Head of the Insubric Ecosystems Research Group 80-100% (f/m/d)
As an internationally recognised researcher, you will be leading a research group with a staff of between 4 and 10. The coordination and promotion of research across the entire group as well as the management of your own projects on relevant topics relating to insubric ecosystems will constitute part of the varied range of tasks under your responsibility. You will continuously develop research at the site and define ambitious goals in collaboration with your group. You will be committed to putting scientific findings into practice and working closely with relevant stakeholders, particularly in the canton of Ticino. You will also be responsible for obtaining third-party funding for research projects and for fostering collaboration with authorities and organisations at a regional, cantonal, national and international level. You will oversee the WSL site in Cadenazzo and will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of the WSL's research facilities and property at the site. You will liaise closely with the head office in Birmensdorf and the remaining WSL sites.
You have an excellent scientific track record in the field of forestry, environmental or natural sciences and many years of experience in the leadership of major research projects. Your team-driven and inclusive management style will serve to motivate your team members. As an engaging person, your negotiating skills will help to further develop your regional, national and international network of contacts. You enjoy cultivating contacts with stakeholders, partner organisations and other important players. You are fluent to a professional level in Italian and English; a good knowledge of German would be advantageous.
