WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF
The WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF is part of the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL and thus of the ETH Domain. WSL focuses on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on the handling of natural hazards. WSL employs approximately 600 people, of whom 140 work at SLF in Davos.

The Research Unit
Alpine Environment and Natural Hazards investigates the dynamics and mitigation of debris flows. As part of our on-going research activities in the alpine environment, we are seeking

Debris Flow Scientist                    Project Leader (100%)

You will lead a project to investigate how debris flow hazard will change in a climate undergoing increasing precipitation extremes. Your primary task is to combine hydrological models with debris flow models to assess how ground moisture will affect debris flow entrainment of torrent sediments. You have a strong background in natural hazards, mathematical modelling of debris flows and a good understanding of soil hydrology.

You hold a PhD in civil engineering with a strong background in hydraulics. You have experience in the application of numerical models and geographic information systems.  Experience in developing data interfaces between models is beneficial. Ability to program is essential. You are able to work independently in a multidisciplinary team of engineers and natural hazard experts. You have good command of written and spoken English and can speak at least one national language.

Please send your complete application to Clemens Güdel, Human Resources SLF, by uploading the requested documents through our webpage. Applications via email will not be considered.
