The Blue-Green Biodiversity 2020 is a new initiative between WSL and eawag (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology). In the framework of this Project within the research unit ‘Land Change Science', we are searching for one year (possibility of extension), with a start between August and October 2020 a
BGB2020 Data Scientist (Post-Doc or Master) 80-100%
Your task will be to analyze biodiversity-relevant parliamentary interventions, laws and regulations as well as annually published court rulings using upfront text retrieval methods. This will enable us to identify the objectives of biodiversity legislation and to measure law enforcement at all levels of administrative and judicial decision-making. The successful applicant will be based at WSL in Birmensdorf and supported by an interdisciplinary team of WSL and eawag scientists.

You have successfully applied quantitative text retrieval methods, preferably of legislative or planning texts, and are interested in biodiversity topics. You have a doctorate or an excellent master degree in data science, have good statistical knowledge and are familiar with handling large data sets. You should have a good command of English and preferably a Swiss national language and you are able to understand parliamentary texts in German or French. You are very ambitious and motivated, are used to a high standard of independent, structured and careful working attitude, and demonstrate a high level of team spirit.
