The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL is a part of the ETH domain. Approximately 500 people work on the sustainable use and protection of the environment and on the handling of natural hazards.
The Blue-Green Biodiversity 2020 is a new initiative between WSL and Eawag (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology). Please find more information on our homepage at: press release BGB2020
. In the framework of this initiative within the research unit ‘Biodiversity and Conservation Biology‘ and research group ‘Spatial Evolutionary Ecology‘, we are searching for one year
(possibility of extension), with a start between August and October 2020
Post-Doc BGB2020 Temporal Community Dynamics (80-100%)
You will assess temporal dynamics in species turnover (change in species identity) and change in proportional abundance (i.e. dominance) using time series data from both aquatic and terrestrial systems. You will evaluate environmental factors likely influencing these temporal dynamics, paying particular attention to those that might represent connectedness between terrestrial and aquatic systems. You will be based at WSL with Catherine Graham but will interact regularly with the co-PI from Eawag, Blake Matthews, as well an interdisciplinary team including international experts at using global time series da-tasets.
You have acquired a PhD in biology, or environmental sciences, with a strong background in community ecology, data management and statistical analyses. Ideally, you will be familiar with fitting time-series models and have experience with large datasets. You have strong English writing skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to write scientific papers. German is a plus. You are ambitious, independent and highly motivated, and have a strong work ethic and team spirit.
Please submit your complete application online to, Michèle Bucher, Human Resources WSL, by uploading the requested documents through our webpage. Applications via email will not be considered. Catherine Graham, catherine.graham(at)wsl.ch or Blake Matthews, blake.matthews(at)eawag.ch, will be happy to answer any questions or offer further information. The evaluation process will start in July 2020, but the position will remain open until filled. The WSL strives to increase the proportion of women in its employment, which is why qualified women are particularly called upon to apply for this position.
